General Guides for Job Search

  1. Find a recruiter BEFORE you absolutely have to have a new job.

Let's be honest, you're probably wasting everybody's time talking to a recruiter unless you're at least thinking about making a job change. But the absolute worst time to make first contact with a recruiter is when you've been, fired, or quit and you need a new job right away!

The purpose of this first contact with Alliances is to:
    • Let us know that you exist & you're sort of looking around,
    • Give the recruiter some idea of your technical talents
    • Share with the recruiter your career plans and goals

Some recruiters don't want you to call them until you're desperate for a new job. First Alliances believes in working with you from an early stage so we get to know you better. This helps to prepare us to keep a lookout for positions that you are looking for.

  2. Specializing in your talents. A recruiter usually specializes by geography, technology, or industry, or some combination of the above. And that is how First Alliances works. Feel free to share with us your technical field and location preference or any other personal preferences.

Employers use recruiters to help them find people with special well defined skill sets. Tell us if you have any special skills outside of your work. If you're an unrecognized "super star", recruiters are usually quite good at helping you get recognized and accelerate the advancement of your career

  3. Keeping track of opportunities. The information you share with us helps us to keep you in mind for career-building positions as they arise. We have a system in place that will tell us of new positions that are "right up your alley" as they are uncovered. So it is also very important that you help us by updating your resumes regularly.

  4. Provide us with your current salary information and expectations. Most people find it hard to discuss something as personal as salaries. And that's fine. But recruiters need to know this for the following reasons:
    • We can’t keep calling you to ask if a package is something you were looking for.
    • Suppose you went to an interview and you loved the company and the job, the employer liked you but made an offer that was less that what you wanted, but hadn’t told us. What would you think of the employer? What would the employer think of us?
    • If we knew what your expectations were, we would not expect you to take a salary reduction

  5. Make it easy for us to get and read your latest resume. We receive a lot of resumes in many different formats whether by e-mail, post and some are even had delivered. This means it takes us a lot of time to get absorb everything. That’s why we have a system to help us to store and retrieve your resumes and profiles faster. To help us to help you, please update your resume on our website. It will update your records in our office and help us to keep track of opportunities that may be suitable for you.

  6. General Counseling Our job is to uncover the best career-building positions then recruit qualified people for these positions. Part of the recruitment process often includes some screening, resume "tuning", and briefing sessions before an interview with the Employer.
